Shaymus Hanlin is a 24-year-old vocalist and bandleader based in Portland, Oregon. Immersed in the American Songbook from an early age, he fell in love with the music and began performing at age 13.
Hanlin was introduced to the music festival circuit as a young performer with the Oregon Coast Lab Band and Bay City Swing. These formative experiences allowed him to hone his craft on stage while learning from countless accomplished musicians.
Notable performances include appearances at the Sun Valley Jazz & Music Festival, the Sacramento Hot Jazz Jubilee, the Clambake Music Festival, the Fresno Dixieland and Mardi Gras Festival, and a tour with the Glenn Miller Orchestra throughout Mexico. He was also invited to perform at the prestigious New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (Jazz Fest) with Banu Gibson, but regrettably it was cancelled due to Covid. In addition, Shaymus maintains an active schedule, performing full-time in Portland.
On February 5, 2021, Shaymus and his quartet released their debut album, Just Us, Just We. The quartet specializes in classic jazz and swing, emotional ballads, and rarities from the American Songbook. Hanlin attended Michael Feinstein’s Great American Songbook Academy in 2019, and Feinstein praised Shaymus’ artistry, writing, “Your singing is smooth, natural, and you do justice to every song you chose. And the band is solid behind you.” CDs are available for purchase at shaymushanlin.com/shop or at live shows.
With a fresh perspective on a timeless, old-school sound, Hanlin stands out as a compelling voice in the world of classic jazz and swing. While honoring the legacy of this cherished music, his artistry brings a distinct style and authenticity that demands attention.
